This page exists to help people find us, and also provides info on our locality.

Pyrmont Road is the centre of our universe.  It is in an idyllic conservation area located by the river Thames in an area called Strand on the Green in west London.  Click to see photos of the Strand on the Green area

Our street

Pyrmont Road is a quiet tree lined street leading off the river at Strand on the Green.  Parking is free and plentiful on the street.  The area is very popular for visiting pubs, restaurants, and just for walking by the very picturesque river.

Our house

We live in a 120 year old, totally modernised 3 floor town house, with 4 bedrooms (ie sleeping for 2 adults and up to 3 kids (subject to Georginas permission to use her bed), and all the usual modern amenities (central heating, extensive kitchen setup, dishwasher, laundry, home cinema, Sat TV,  Broadband web access, WLAN, etc etc.)

Getting to us

We are about 15 mins drive from Heathrow airport, near junction 2 of the M4, about an hour from Gatwick airport.  These times can double in rush hour.

Rail links are good from either airport, with the Gatwick express to Clapham Junction (then overground to Kew Bridge) or using the underground from Heathrow.

Buses / coaches also run into central London but they are slower than rail.

Very local amenities

Meaning less than 10 mins walking :

bulletRoyal botanic gardens at Kew recently made a world heritage site
bulletAbout 15 pubs, and 10 restaurants
bulletLots of little, nice, but expensive shops
bulletSwimming and leisure pools (indoor) and gyms
bulletTennis courts
bulletRiver cruises (kew bridge pier)
bullet Kew Bridge steam museum holds the worlds largest working steam engine and loads of other stuff.
bulletGreat walks by the river and in 2 parks (Gunnersbury / Chiswick House
bullet2 childrens play areas (local rec park + Watermans riverside park.)

Getting about

We are about 5 minutes walk from Kew Bridge Station, and 15 minutes from Gunnersbury underground station.

Getting into the city is easy using the rail links, 25 mins to Waterloo from Kew Bridge station twice an hour, or every 5 mins on the slower underground which will place you anywhere tourist wise.  You could drive, but city parking is'nt recommended for your wallet.

Thre local trains will also get you out to Windsor and Richmond.

Our location really is the centre of the universe for us, its possible to be anywhere in the city in an hour, (i know, i have worked in Canary Wharf !) but at the same time we are 5 mins from the M4 which quickly gets you to places like Windsor, the Berkshire Downs, Stonehenge, Bath or onto Cornwall.

Shopping

Chiswick is a very up market suburb with a great selection of shops, the centre is about a mile NE of us.  London has its major attractions of course (Harrods 20 mins east on the Underground) and serious malls are to be found in Kingston.

We have 3 very local super markets Somerfield, Tesco and Sainsburys, plus small local stores still survive here.

Eating / Drinking out

NOT A PROBLEM !  Chiswick is stuffed with nice small restaurants, within stumbling distance of the house are 3 pubs on the river, with food, and lots of restaurants in Kew Green and Strand on the Green.  The pictures are in reverse distance order, staggering back is more difficult.

Pride Bitter - our local The Bulls head - 400 yards City Barge - 300 yards Bell and Crown - 50 yards
Struck off the list for turning into a cr** chef and brewer plastifood seller, with a dislike for people drinking anything unless it comes with their fodder !

Personal recommendations :

Home deliveries from The Gourmet Oriental, or Brentford Tandoori.

Chinese - New Happiness Gardens (good all you can eat place) in Boston Manor

Pubs with food - Bell and Crown (exit door, turn left, 30 paces and you're there.)

Others locally - Gourmet Burger, Chiswick High Rd for delicious self service burgers etc.  Fouberts Restaurant in Chiswick High Rd - Small Italian run hotel - pasta and home made ice cream.  Old Orleans in Ealing if you need cajun / american style food or cocktails.
